Hi Wolfie,

We'll try to think of more things you can do to get 0.9.8.1 working correctly. In the meantime, I'm glad 0.9.7.2 works correctly for you! :-)

As for the German to English translation, what I meant was: If you register here in the forum as a Spamihilator "registered" user, the buttons here in the forum will be translated to English. To register, click on the "Registrieren" link at the top of this page and fill in the info. Then, whenever you login (by clicking on the "Login" link at the top of the page) you will see the translated buttons and forum sections.

But, the topic subjects and message text won't be translated. For that, I use Google's "translate a page" feature. The link looks like this (all on one line of course):

http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... uage_tools

All you have to do is replace the "XXXX" in that URL with the URL of a Spamihilator forum topic page. For example, the topic we are currently in has this URL:

http://www.spamihilator.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2465

So, here is the full URL (all on one line) that will need to be put into your web browser:

http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... uage_tools

After you have done this, you should see everything in English (unless the page is very very long and then the bottom part will still be in German because google has a limitation of how much it can translate on one page). At this point, you can then navigate through the forum sections and topics just by clicking on buttons and links (so you don't have to keep entering cryptic URLs each time you want to go to a different page).

I hope that is more clear. ;-)

I have made the "initial Google translating" step a little easier by adding it to the top of my website. See the top frame of:

http://www.peaktopeak.com/spamihilator/

Since this is topic #2465 (as you can see from the URL), you would just need to click on the "Topic" option, enter 2465 in the text box and click on the Translate button (or just hit the <enter> key on your keyboard).

EDIT after original post:
There are a couple caveats regarding the Google translation: Some words don't get translated (probably because they are German slang words that aren't in Google's dictionary) and some words get translated to strange words (I don't know why), so you might have to do some translating yourself (or not know exactly what the user was trying to say). Also, if you are logged in as a user to the forum and then you use the Google translator, you will no longer be logged in. There is no way to be logged in and translated at the same time. Therefore, I always have two web browser windows open. One for my logged in user and the other for the translating. If I am just reading (but not answering) messages, I use the Google browser window. But if I need to answer some e-mails, I use the logged in browser window. Once you get used to it, it's easy to bounce back and forth between the browser windows. :-)

Bob

9.7.2 OK

Beitrag von Gast » 26. Mär 2004, 20:16

Hello Bob, Thanks for the easy to understand reply. I tried what you said and no go. So I went back to 9.7.2 and spam goes to recycle bin and good mails to training area and OutlookExpress inbox!!. Great!!!!
On another topic, I really love this free program and I searched for and use it based on it's ability to filter those Chinese/gobblygook characters. The others filters are great also.I d\l ed a bunch of them. Once I set up (imported) my address book and blocked senders list Spamilator was easy to use, adding new friends to my list and keeping out all others with a right click is smooth. The updates have been ample and d\l ed easy.
I see you showed a link to Google to translate this forum/page. I use Google as my home page and am very familiar with it and I can't get it to work! Copied and pasted the address at the top of this page to the Google German to English box and no good !!!! Maybe it's me.I wished it worked because alot more people would use this forum if they knew what those icons meant. Ab"SEND"en means send,titel/title......... whoa German seems hard to learn! By the way Google likes to ask on a search for Spamilator ,"do you mean "Spaminator"". That sucks. Thanks wolfie

Hi Wolfie,

Make sure you don't have your e-mail address in the newsgroups list (Settings | Newsletters | Newsgroups). If you do, all of the mails will be considered non-spam and won't appear in the Recycle Bin.

Also, make sure Spamihilator is set up to filter mails in the Settings | Filter Properties dialog. The "Enable Spam Word Filter" and "Enable Plugin Filters" options should be enabled.

I have to do that myself, then I hit learn and they disappear to who knows where???.

When you tell the Training Area to "learn" about the marked messages, the messages will be deleted from the training area and Spamihilator will learn spam and non-spam words from them. The messages will then be gone, so you can't do anything with them anymore unless they are in the Recycle Bin (spams) or your e-mail client (everything else).

If I mark them as non-spam and "learn" from them they still go bye-bye. Maybe I'll go back to ver 9.7 and see what happens?

Yes, as soon as they are "learned", they are gone (but they will still be in your e-mail client if they are non-spam). This also occurs in version 0.9.7.2 If the settings that I mentioned above don't help, then yes, go back to 0.9.7.2 and see if it works for you. We'll then take it from there. Please let us know what happens.

Regards,

Bob

Hello Bob, Thanks for quick response. Yes, Spamilator is running, my d\l box appears and shows the number of mails and their kbs and closes the connection with a bar (thats new). The mails go to both my training area and my OutlookExpress5 inbox.Nothing ever goes into my recycle bin. I now realize that the restore button is only in the recycle bin. The mails in the training area are not marked as spam, I have to do that myself, then I hit learn and they disappear to who knows where???. If I mark them as non-spam and "learn" from them they still go bye-bye. Maybe I'll go back to ver 9.7 and see what happens? wolfie

Hi Wolfie,

Mine too. :-) I translate German pages at http://www.google.com If you register in this forum as a user, the buttons and some links will automatically be translated to English.

wolfie hat geschrieben:I also have the same problem, tried the same fixes, but no go.I have the updated patch....9.8.1 No mails make it to my recycle bin,no restore in training area. I run AVG anti virus but its never been a problem before, ever, even with all the upgrades. Should I do a uninstall and a re-install,saving,exporting my settings first?????

Are mails appearing in the training area? If not, is Spamihilator even running (e.g. do you see the Status Window when mails are downloading)?

If there are mails in your training area, are any marked as spam?

Bob

Rebooted and the file was recreated - thanks!

Hi

Thanks for that.

1. Version 0.9.8.1

2. I have Norton AV running - there may have been an update applied around the time this started.

3. It was set to 30.

4. No.

5. It looks like all of the recycle files are still there, going back three days or so.

6. Deleted the file, but it wasn't recreated and I still can't see the mails.

Hi Mac,

A few questions/ideas for you:

1. Which version of Spamihilator (a.k.a "Spami") are you using? (e.g. 0.9.8.1, 0.9.8.0 or 0.9.7.2)

2. You said that this started occuring yesterday. Did you make any changes in Spamihilator or install any new software around the time when this problem started occuring?

3. If you go into Spami's "Settings" dialog window and click on the "General Settings" link, what do you see in the "Don't keep messages more than __ days" option? If you have it set for 0 or 1, set it to another number (such as 5) and see if that helps.

4. Do you have the "Keep Spam Mails on the server until I delete them from the Recycle Bin" option selected?

5. After you download new messages and you see them in the Training Area (but not in the Recycle Bin), go into Spami's program folder and then into the /recycle folder and see what is in there. That folder will usually be "c:/program files/spamihilator/recycle". There will be at least 2 files in there (recycle.txt and recyclebin.xml). There should also be one or more .recycle files in there, but if Spami doesn't display anything in the Recycle Bin window, there might not be any .recycle files.

6. If you continue to have this problem, delete the recyclebin.xml file from the "c:/program files/spamihilator/recycle" folder. The next time Spami downloads mails, this file will be recreated and hopefully you will see mails in your Recycle Bin. If this works, then it was just some corruption in the .xml file.

Bob

Spamihilator emptying recycle bin

Beitrag von Gast » 19. Mär 2004, 20:37

As of yesterday Spamihilator started deleting spam without leaving a copy in the recycle bin. If I go to the training area I can see the messages, but I cannot restore them. Any ideas anyone?
